The story of Ravenswood, a timeless classic English Tudor country house on Lake Michigan, is part of the lore of Harbert. It is well known that Carl Sandburg made his home a few steps down the beach during the 30's and 40's. Ravenswood was built by the Italian stone mason family of a world renowned heavyweight wrestler, named Jumpin Joe Savoldi, in the early 30's. Jumpin Joe was a football player at Notre Dame and later with the Chicago Bears, but he made his fame and fortune as a professional wrestler. This is where he raised his family. After he sold the property, it was acquired by another notable family, Cecil Pond and his wife Betty, from South Bend. This was their summer home until the late 80's. Cecil was an inventor and his biggest achievement was the riding lawn mower and he founded Wheelhorse Products, which was later sold to Toro.

For the last twenty five years the house has been owned by Chaz and the late Roger Ebert. Totally renovated and updated with the finest in quality and craftsmanship, it maintains it's timeless elegance. In addition to the main house, there is a fully equipped beach house overlooking the wide, pristine riparian beach. The approach to the house has changed little in more than 80 years. A winding wooded trail leads up into the dunes to the secluded driveway and most people don't even know it is there.
